Patience

(From Clare's article archives, Circa 2010-2015)

Patience…

With horses, it’s all about patience.

Patience, patience, patience, and more patience.

And did I mention, patience?

Patience is the name of the game when handling and training horses.

You just can’t have enough of it.

And, I know it’s hard.

Even after 39 years of experience, with almost every type of horse with every type of personality, I will be met with resistance that I have to be

patient enough to work through properly.

Whoever said that getting through to a 1000 lb., flight, herd oriented creature would be easy.

Every horse may challenge you, and test your boundaries.

They also may resist learning new things, or moving up in their training.

If you are patient, and firm, and clear, and consistent, and assertive,

(but not aggressive or passive), you will reap the benefits.

Your horse will give their all, if approached properly.

Positive reinforcement.

Make it fun.

And you will be rewarded, immensely.
